I could understand. He really was young-looking. But reality is reality, and the next day when he was exposing his lie to Larisa it was so agonizing to watch him. He flushed, then became pale, and then flushed again. "Why did you do it? I was so disappointed thinking that I can not trust you. But I'm glad that you have now spoken the truth." It was true. In the end the age difference did not matter to Larisa. But, the lie did, and she ultimately quit the relationship. It made the relationship stressful and hopeless from beginning to end.
Any advantage gained from a lie, even a small lie, is short-lived. In the end it will destroy all. In Russia ladies dating it is always better to under promise and over deliver.
